'Divergent' Madrid Premiere

In 2017, we’re getting a fourth Divergent movie, which is right now titled Ascendant. While we’re always happy and game for another installment of the Divergent franchise, this movie isn’t coming to us quite like we expected: Instead of opening in theaters, the latest, and final, Divergent movie will instead air as a made-for-TV movie, and we’ve got lost of feelings about this.

We’re never going to say NO to a Divergent movie, but the decision to bypass theaters and head straight for television did not go over well with many, namely the the stars of the film, like Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller. Shailene, in particular, has been pretty outspoken when it comes to the decision to turn the movie into a TV-movie, and right now, it doesn’t sound like she’ll be stepping into Tris’ boots ever again.

Now, there’s another voice who has weighted in, with the director of the OG Divergent movie calling the whole thing, “sad.”

Just think: If the last part of Divergent, Allegiant, hadn’t been split, the film franchise would already be done. Now it might not happen at all.

Everything about the movie is very up in the air right now, and hopefully they figure it out soon seeing as how the movie actually already has a release date: June 9th, 2017. Hopefully we’ll get some form of a Divergent movie that day…cross your fingers.
