One of our favorite movies (in the history of movies) is undoubtedly (500) Days of Summer. It’s a love story between Tom and Summer — the perfectly cast Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel — but it’s also a love story about the City of Los Angeles. The city absolutely comes alive as their love grows, and then fades, and it’s the perfect backdrop for these two trying to find happiness.

But just like Tom and Summer’s relationship, it turns out Angels Knoll is not long for this world. The process of selling this land to a private developer has begun (including Angels Flight, the funicular up and down the hill), and the area will probably be sold and a really big building will be constructed.

AND THAT IS VERY SAD.

But, the area is in desperate need of some love and attention. It’s actually fenced off to the public, and has been since 2013 (when Angels Flight actually derailed, and needed repairs). This hasn’t stopped people from hopping the fence, and heading to the ~iconic~ bench that Tom and Summer shared.

While it’s certainly picturesque, it’s also obviously needs some TLC. No one’s going to fall in love here with overgrowing shrubs, trash, and graffiti.

If the area were to completely close down, DTLA would be losing one of it’s last remaining spots of land to just sit and enjoy the outdoors (and the architecture, if you’re like Tom). But, unused space in DTLA is a hot commodity right now, so more than likely, this is the beginning of the end for this special spot. With the way things are progressing, we might have less than 500 days left of Angels Knoll.
