Anna Kendrick might need to watch her back, if she wants to lock down that Squirrel Girl role. Our favorite ginger and Stranger Things star Shannon Purser is looking to play the role herself.

If you’re anything like us, then you probably developed an insane crush on her character Barb (and maybe even used #WeAreBarb to show your solidarity). So, the news that she’s got her sights set on big things makes us really happy, even though it could mean Anna Kendrick is out. It’s a tough choice for fans, but Purser has an incredible attitude about the whole thing.

She told The Revelist,”I think Squirrel Girl is just adorable but at the same time is totally boss and completely awesome. I think people need a character like that.”

“It’s easy in the superhero realm to feel like a lot of the female superheroes we see are grown women who are super responsible and know what their purpose is and that kind of thing. Squirrel Girl is a little bit younger and like a real person, trying to figure out her life and then also having to save the world. I love that.”

Rumors swirled last month when Anna Kendrick voiced a similar wish as Purser to play the unbeatable female superhero. The internet went bananas over the idea, and folks started coming out as team Kendrick. Edgar Wright, who directed her in Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, endorsed her and even had some casting suggestions.

Whether it’s Anna Kendrick or Shannon Purser playing Squirrel Girl, we’re just glad to have more female superheroes kicking butt and being bosses!
