Earlier this week we found out that Anne Hathaway could potentially be replacing Amy Schumer as Barbie in the forthcoming “Barbie” movie. Tbh, we’re stoked for any feminist-bent live-action “Barbie” movie, and we would gladly throw our money at Fandango regardless of who it starred. But we’re just as excited about Hathaway as we were for Schumer, so wins all around.
ICYMI: Schumer was slated to star but had to drop out in March due to scheduling conflicts.
She seemed pretty bummed about it in her official statement to Variety:
However, Mattel and Sony were supposed to start filming the movie in June, so they needed a new star STAT. Obviously, that June start date didn’t happen, but they might be able to make up for lost time with their rumored new star, Hathaway.
As of two days ago, Hathaway was “in talks,” according to Variety. Director Alethea Jones, who recently directed Fun Mom Dinner, is also “in talks.” Obviously, nothing is set in stone, but let’s hope those conversations about Hathaway starring come to fruition.
Schumer, by the way, sent her praise to the next potential Barbie.
The new movie is supposed to follow Barbie as she gets kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough. We’re loving everything about this premise and cannot wait to see it.
