Get your makeshift magic carpets ready, because we have an update on the live-action Aladdin: The upcoming film is going to feature another brand-new character.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Billy Magnussen is coming on board to play Prince Anders, a character written for the adaptation.

No word yet on how Anders will figure into the update, but our guess is that he’ll join Aladdin as one of Jasmine’s suitors.

In any case, Magnussen has more than enough credentials to play the royal role. The actor is a Tony nominee, who is known for his part as Rapunzel’s prince in 2014’s Into the Woods. He also appeared in Ingrid Goes West, Bridge of Spies, and American Crime Story.

Magnussen is joining an already stellar cast, including Mena Massoud (Jack Ryan) as Aladdin, Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) as Jasmine, and Will Smith as Genie. There’s also Nasim Pedrad (Saturday Night Live) as Jasmine’s friend Mara, who is another original character.

For those of you who are nervous about seeing one of your favorite childhood Disney movies come to life, never fear.

Aladdin composer Alan Menken told Billboard that fans can expect all of the old, good stuff — plus some new, exciting additions.

Might we add that Menken is ALSO writing the score for an upcoming live-action film version of The Little Mermaid? It looks like Disney live-action is literally taking over, and we’re so into it.
