Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande duet in onesies and it's fabulous, naturally
What’s better than two fabulous lady singers doing a beautiful duet for charity? Two fabulous lady singers doing a beautiful duet for charity . . . in ONESIES.
Well, Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande have officially made our hearts burst via an awesome new music collab, performing “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House in Miley’s very own backyard. The two singers rocked it decked out as a unicorn and mouse/bear, and they were adorable. They also sound totally killer.
This onesie performance was just one of a bunch of musical performances called “Backyard Sessions,” which are intimate, adorable, impressive covers shot in Miley’s own backyard. She did a whole bunch a few years back and sang a cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” that still makes our jaw drop.
For the record, we LOVE this idea of stripped down sessions, but what’s it for this time around? It’s all to raise awareness for Miley’s new non-profit The Happy Hippie Foundation (best name ever, IMHO) whose mission is “to rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBT youth and other vulnerable populations,” according to the org’s site.
The non-profit was started by Miley herself after the death of Leelah Alcorn, a young transgender girl who committed suicide last December. “It hit me as hard as if I had known her,” Miley wrote on the HHF’s site. “I felt connected to her. For a year, my focus has been on helping homeless youth, and it was heartbreaking to hear that 40 percent of homeless teens identify as LGBT. The more I learned about what life can be like as a transgender person, the more I realized how especially woven into homelessness that is.”
“No one should have to hide who they really are, no matter what his or her name, gender, status or orientation,” continued Miley. “That’s why happy hippies are here to say that every life is valuable and it is our mission to make sure those who question the value of themselves and their lives feel protected and loved by us . . . which they very much are.”
It’s an incredible organization, and these current backyard sessions are all to raise awareness.
This is definitely a cause we can get behind, and we love seeing Miley and Ariana supporting it together. Two creative, inspiring, music-making women making the world a better place through song and action? Yes, please. When you share their killer vid on your Facebook wall there’s an option to donate to Happy Hippie, which is also awesome.
Check out their performance, which happens on a blow-up couch FYI. Miley also uploaded the video with this pretty d’aw message. “Soooooo thankful for Ariana Grande for being a part of the #backyardsessions!! You’re the sweetest little #happyhippie bear-mouse ever! Loooooove you The Happy Hippie Foundation #HappyHippiePresents #dontdreamitsover.”
In this same series of backyard sessions, Miley also does a few covers with Joan Jett and Laura Jane Grace, and a version of “Look What They’ve Done to My Song Ma” with Melanie Safka that brings so many chills. Pretty rad.
What was that about Miley not being able to sing?
