Democratic National Convention: Day Two

Last night at the Democratic National Convention, Meryl Streep looked proud to be an American. She took the stage excitedly to deliver a short speech about #GirlPower and to publicly declare her support for seeing Hillary Clinton become the next President.

She started out her powerful speech by talking about what it takes to be “the first female anything.”

She charismatically starts with how strong women in the American Revolution had the grit to take a hit, sew themselves up, and keep on fighting. She parallels Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton with the trailblazing women of the past who have consistently fought to break down barriers.

“These women share something in common,” she says. “Capacity of mind, fullness of heart, and a burning passion for their cause.”

And she does all this while wearing an absolutely spectacular American flag dress that perfectly matches the flags poised in the background.

As one of the most decorated actresses of all-time, Meryl knows a thing or two about breaking down barriers. Not to mention she’s worked tirelessly for women’s rights and equal access to education across the world.

And while we realize that Clinton has already chosen a running mate, after listening to Meryl’s wonderful speech and totally approving of the pure confidence she embodied beneath her patriotic threads, we have to admit that we wouldn’t mind seeing lots more of her in this world.

But politics aside, there’s no arguing that she looked absolutely spectacular in that amazing American flag dress and that it takes a particularly magnanimous woman to be able to pull a statement like that off (while also making a number of other awesome statements, obviously).

Watch her whole speech (and see the dress in its full glory) here yourself.
