This one line in 'Love Actually' might totally change how you see one of the characters
‘Tis the season to watch Christmas movies over and over and over again. Specifically, Love Actually. Because let’s face it: It doesn’t feel like the holidays unless you’ve overdosed on holiday cheer via Netflix and old DVDs. Love Actually is the perfect Christmas movie, because it combines three quintessential holiday musts: family, coming together in the name of love and Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You.”
Love Actually is one of those movies that you notice something new about with every viewing. For example, the adorable way the octopus-clad kid yells “We’re here!” during an intimate moment between David and Natalie, or that January “Betty Draper” Jones is one of Colin’s all-American dream girls. So is Elisha “The Girl Next Door” Cuthbert. So we weren’t surprised when Jen Lewis over at BuzzFeed recently made ANOTHER amazing discovery about the film: Was Liam Neeson’s character hopelessly in love with Emma Thompson’s?
Right from the get-go, we’re made to understand that Daniel and Karen are close friends. They talk about their relationships and their kids and life in general. So, the relationship is established and the movie goes on. Was that just to help explain all of the movie’s connections? Or did it set the groundwork for a bigger plot twist?
You might remember that at the end of the film, Daniel meets Carol, played by Claudia Schiffer. They flirt, sparks fly and you’re led to believe there’s a future between the two. But! When the two part ways, he says, “Well, I hope we’ll meet again, Karen.” Wait, what?!
Yup, Daniel totally calls Carol “Karen.” Is it because he’s nervous after meeting his self-described dream girl, or because he’s harboring feelings for Emma Thompson’s character? I guess we’ll never know, but it is certainly a fun little catch to consider. Kinda makes you want to see Karen leave Harry for Daniel, huh? Remember, guys: Love actually is all around!
