It must be One Direction season, as Liam Payne has shared a teaser for something on his Instagram that’s getting us a bit hot under the collar.
Over the last few months we’ve been blessed with new music from the former One Direction boys: First, Louis Tomlinson shared his EDM banger “Just Hold On,” and then Zayn returned with the chilled out “Still Got Time.” Of course, Harry is just about to drop his solo album tomorrow (May 12th), and Niall Horan low-key released what might be one of the best solo One Direction singles so far.
It seems, then, that only one of the former five boyband members is missing: Liam Payne.
Yet, yesterday (May 10th) something unusual happened. On Instagram, Liam shared a video of himself shirtless captioned with just this emoji…👀.
In the clip, an R&B-style beat and synth can be heard in the background, and something that sounds a bit like Liam’s vocal.
Is anyone else just a little bit flustered?
Okay, so this TOTALLY means that Liam is about to drop a song, right? Of course, rumors of the singer’s impending solo project have been circulating for a while. It’s been reported that he’s worked with hip hop group Migos on his debut track, and yesterday news broke that he may have co-written the song with Ed Sheeran.
British tabloid The Sun (so take this with a pinch/bucket of salt) reported that an “insider” has confirmed the news, quoting them as saying, “Liam was in Los Angeles and was told that Ed was beginning to write a song with Liam in mind. Liam rushed back to the UK and the pair of them wrote the track together and then recorded it. With Ed’s expertise in creating a hit Liam knows they can’t go wrong. They have produced something special together.”
Meanwhile, Liam recently hosted an intimate fan Q&A and exclusive playback of the song (which is rumored to be titled “Kind Of Beautiful”) in which he talked about there being no competition between the former One Direction bandmates.
Given that Liam Payne’s debut solo single could come as soon as tomorrow, we guess we’re not going to have to wait too long to find out what that teaser was all about and whether the track will indeed be a collab with Ed Sheeran and Migos. Exciting times.
