Movies where a bunch of our favorite characters fight each other is the new thing. Like, next year’s Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice that includes everyone in the DC Comic Universe at last look. Then there’s Captain America: Civil War, and even though that one doesn’t include a vs. in the title, Captain American and Iron Man are going to square off. Now, completing this list of major movie fights, we’re going to have King Kong in one corner, and Godzilla in the other. Let the best mega-monster win.

Following the success of last summer’s Godzilla reboot (the one with Bryan Cranston, not the 1998 one with Matthew Broderick) we’re getting more Godzilla, with a sequel set for 2018. On top of that, there’s also a brand new King Kong coming, Kong: Skull Island, starring Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, and John Goodman. That one will actually be here in 2017. And since clearly we’re like YAS GIANT MONSTERS, there’s now a planned smackdown between the two of them set for 2020 in one giant shared cinematic landscape where all giant monsters now live. (Let the record show, the two previously faced off in the 1962 Japanese movie King Kong vs. Godzilla.)

“Audiences really responded to Godzilla,” Legendary CEO, Thomas Tull, explained in the press release on Legendary’s website. “Today, I’m excited to reveal that film was only the beginning of an epic new entertainment universe. As a lifelong fan of these characters, I’ve always wanted to see the ultimate showdown, and today we’re pleased to be announcing that and more.”

What’s the “and more?” Legendary also snagged the rights to “other iconic giant monsters,” which is the actual description of them on the website. These other iconic giant monsters includes the likes of Rodan (like a giant and terrifying Pteranodon), Mothra (a giant and terrifying moth), and King Ghidorah (a three-headed dragon!!). These characters have actually all appeared in Japan’s Godzilla universe, but now it’s time for their introduction here because who doesn’t want to be scared silly by something with three heads?

And then these monsters will all fight King Kong! And maybe turn on Godzilla! All giant monsters fighting each other! Maybe even the Cloverfield monster? It seems that anything is possible nowadays, and that includes giving us nightmares about giant beings attacking innocent cities and causing destruction and mayhem, etc.

That aside, aren’t you kinda curious to see who would win in a fight between ALL the giant monsters? My money’s on Godzilla. But we’ll have to wait until 2020 to find out.
