Kendall Lock is our Illustrator of the Week!
Kendall Lock is a “graphic designer by day and fashion illustrator by night” — and we think her work is amazing 24/7. The Brooklyn-based artist has mastered a gorgeous, glamorous style of work that we can’t get enough. Her art has texture and movement, and she uses color beautifully. After just one look, it’s clear that everything would look right at home in the offices of fashion’s finest. The girl’s got style, both on the page and in real life — and that’s why she’s our Illustrator of the Week!

No pressure, but describe your art: Pretty fashion illustrations with a painterly vibe.
What inspires you to make things: It’s a happiness impulse: the more I create, the happier I become. Plus, I keep chasing that high I got when I was 12 drawing Sailor Moon from Geocities print-outs. Fashion illustration comes pretty close!
Your favorite thing(s) to draw: Faces, but more particularly eyes and eyebrows. I could waste entire pencils drawing big, bushy eyebrows. It’s a total obsession.
Medium of choice: Digital painting, followed closely by graphite.
The first time you knew you wanted to be an artist: I was watching my mother paint when I was a child and I thought it was magical.
Proudest achievement so far: Live sketching at Bergdorf Goodman earlier this year was an incredible experience. I’d never considered working live before, since my work usually consists of highly rendered pieces but I had so much fun!
Music you listen to while you work: Lately it’s been a heavy rotation of Drake, Gallant, and FKA twigs.
Your most prized possession: I have this Prada coat I got for a ridiculous steal years ago. It’s a silk-blend vintage cut in pale blue. Sometimes I just open my closet, push aside my 500 fast fashion guilt purchases and stare longingly.
Your personal hero: My parents. Everything I am today is for them and because of them.
The last thing to make you giggle: A slow-motion video of my dog chasing a tennis ball.
Current project(s): Lots of graphic design lately, but I’ve been dreaming of starting my own paperie. I’m still in the research stage, but I hope it’s something I can slowly start to build!
