Jimmy Kimmel kicked off the first ever SHOPATHON(RED) last night for a really good cause
December 1st was World AIDS Day and to raise money for the cause, Jimmy Kimmel hosted the first ever SHOPATHON(RED), a giant shopping extravaganza organized to raise money for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS. Not only did viewers have a chance to buy some pretty awesome stuff (like a chance to join Meryl Streep on the red carpet), but all proceeds up to $20 million were matched by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Jimmy Kimmel decided to parody traditional infomercials, featuring special guests like Olivia Wilde, Bono, Matt Damon, and a live performance by The Killers. Of course, it was hilarious, and it was even more enjoyable knowing that it was all going to an amazing cause.
First, we got to hear all about the event with Jimmy and Bono:
Then, we got to see some amazing products all with the hilarious Olivia Wilde:
And there were also other amazing guest appearances, like Scarlett Johansson, who didn't quite understand the event:
Seriously, the event and prizes were amazing, even more so because it was helping a cause that really deserved it. We hope to see more of this kind of generosity as the holiday season gets into full swing, and hopefully, it will stay with us for the rest of the new year.
