Know who didn’t really have the time of her live doing that lift scene in Dirty Dancing? Jennifer Grey. No one puts Baby in the corner, that still stands. But please, don’t ask her to do that lift ever again. For Grey, it was a one and done deal.

Talking to The Guardian about her brand new Amazon Original Series, Red Oaks — which is actually set in the 80s, the same decade we first met Grey on the big screen — she explains that she doesn’t understand the hype around The Lift nowadays. She also can’t believe that regular people attempt the jump, knowing who’s not going to catch them.

“I don’t know how all these people who re-enact it have the guts to throw themselves into the arms of anyone other than Patrick Swayze. It’s insane!” She explains, and we kinda agree. If it can’t be Swayze (brb, crying for a few seconds) it’s at least gotta be Ryan Gosling, because he’s a close second. End of list of people who we’d be willing to do The Lift with.

According to Grey, she’s also only done The Lift once. It happened on the day they shot the scene, and that was it. “Never rehearsed it, never done it since,” she explained. That doesn’t stop EVERYONE from asking her to do it again and again, and that includes her stint on Dancing With The Stars season 11, which she won, no big deal. But as for that Lift…?

“It happened, enjoy it, watch it over and over again but never ask me to do it again because I’m too old … I have a family and I want to live longer!”

OK, OK, we’ll stop asking. Hey, this just gives us another reason to rewatch Dirty Dancing for the billionth time.
