The reboot of cult favorite Jem and the Holograms is proof that everything good eventually comes back around again. It’s been almost 30 years since the girl group first took to the TV stage, and 2015 will be a big year for the franchise, including a movie with Molly Ringwald, Juliette Lewis and Ryan Guzman set to be released later this fall.

But first, the Jem and the Holograms comic is making a comeback! A lot has changed since 1985, and the group has become more diverse in terms of sexual orientation—including two of the main characters, Stormer and Kimber.

“It’s only natural that a modern Jem includes additional diversity,” Jem comic writer Kelly Thompson told The Advocate. “Kimber and Stormer are indeed both out gay characters in the comic and as Tumblr will very excitedly let you know, we’re going to be exploring a romantic relationship between the two characters.”

So, lots to look forward to this year on the Jem and the Holograms front. This gives us plenty of time to prepare amazing Jem Halloween costumes. And for now, you can stream all three seasons of the animated show on Netflix!
