While we don’t quite have a name like the McConaissance for what’s going on with James Van Der Beek, we’ve been lolling over the Dawson’s Creek star’s more recent work. And now we’re getting ready to laugh again as it seems that James Van Der Beek is set to play Diplo in upcoming comedy series.

While our hopes of a Dawson’s Creek reunion have been scuppered (even though James Van Der Beek and Michelle Williams hosted their own mini-reunion late last year), we’ve loved Van Der Beek’s roles in comedies such as Don’t Trust the B**** in Apartment 23, where he played a spoof version of himself, and his hilarious cameo in this Kesha music video.

However, now it seems that James Van Der Beek has a new comedy role up coming up and we can’t wait.

According to a report on Deadline, Van Der Beek is set to star as music producer and DJ Diplo (aka Major Lazer) in the first scripted comedy from Viceland, tentatively titled What Would Diplo Do?

The show is executively produced by Diplo himself and long-time manager Kevin Kusatsu, with Van Der Beek acting as showrunner.

Described as a mixture of This is Spinal Tap and LouieWhat Would Diplo Do? is said to be “a collection of parables about life as told through the eyes of guy who can bring 60,000 people to their feet… but kind of sucks one-on-one.”

Indeed, this isn’t the first time that James Van Der Beek has played Diplo. The actor previously spoofed the superstar producer in a sketch “A Day in the Life of Diplo,” and it’s HILARIOUS.

Speaking about the sketch, the Dawson’s Creek-alumni said that he found writing the skit came easily. “It was fun and that was it,” he said. “I never thought it would lead to a series.”

James Van Der Beek told Deadline that he was currently in the writers room working on the show, and that production would begin next month. We can’t wait!
