Here’s how much the apartment on “How I Met Your Mother” would actually cost
Last week, we uncovered the actual cost of renting Penny’s Pasadena, California apartment on The Big Bang Theory. This week, we’re taking things to the east coast. If you could live in any New York apartment from a TV show, which would it be? Maybe Monica and Rachel’s place in the West Village (it has a balcony!), or Max and Caroline’s cozy-cute Two Broke Girls spot in Brooklyn (it has a horse!).
One of our favorite New York TV apartments is the Upper West Side spot in How I Met Your Mother. It’s how Teddy Westside got his nickname! Well, dreaming is one thing, but being able to afford rent is another. Want to know how much it’ll cost you to live there? The New York Post has the answer.
Throughout the series, Ted, Marshall, Lily, and Robin all take a turn living at the apartment.
We never find out an exact address for the building, but The New York Post did some extensive research and came pretty close to triangulating its coordinates.
For starters, the apartment is above MacLaren’s pub in the show, which is based on McGee’s pub on West 55th Street. It was once stated that the apartment’s closest subway stop is the 1 train at 86th Street and Broadway. And one time, the address 150 West 85th Street was used as the start for a set of directions. All of this information helped inform the monthly rent.
If you want to call the HIMYM two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment home, it’ll cost you a cool $3,000 per month. But hey, at least you’ll be splitting that sum with a roommate. Or two. Or three. And maybe a cockamouse. Plus, there are a ton of perks to living in the HIMYM apartment, including rooftop Halloween parties, a fire escape for painting on, and a living room big enough to hold a red telephone box.
