Fans of Broad City will remember that earlier this year a one Hillary Rodham Clinton — the Democratic nominee for president of the United States — appeared on the TV show to the utter shock and delight of lead characters Abbi and Ilana.

It was a shock for fans, too. Though the show is spectacular, it trades largely in weed jokes and (brilliantly written) self-absorption — aka not exactly the place you’d expect to find a candidate for president.

Indeed, not even the show’s creators and stars, Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, thought they could get the former Secretary of State to appear on the show. (But appear she did — watch below)

And before they booked her, Glazer and Jacobson used another feminist hero as Clinton’s stand-in — one we would have been just as happy to see on-screen.

As Jacobson told The New York Times Magazine in a recent interview,

If you’re wondering what impression Jacobson’s referring to, that would be Poehler’s famed Saturday Night Live take on Clinton, which aired back in 2008 when Hillary was running against then-Senator Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination.

Now you get why we would have been excited to see her on Broad City, right?!

It’s not clear why exactly Clinton ultimately agreed to appear on the show — perhaps to capture the millennial women’s vote? — but when asked if she thought Hillz is a fan of Broad City, Jacobson told The Times, “Listen, I don’t think she and Bill are watching our show. Maybe Chelsea would?”

Fair enough.

But seriously, Chelsea. If you’re reading this, won’t you tell us if you’re an Abbi or an Ilana? Inquiring minds want to know…
