Yes, I know, we all dream of Ryan Gosling taking a page from his own meme and saying “Hey Girl” to us, but as it turns out, Gosling has never actually said those words AT ALL.

Do you hear that? It’s the sound of DREAMS being CRUSHED EVERYWHERE.

So here’s how it all went down: As Reuters reports, Ryan Gosling was the opening day guest for the annual South by Southwest festival, and was being interviewed by director Guillermo Del Toro on Gosling’s forthcoming directorial debut “Lost River,” which, by the by, sounds AMAZING, check out the logline: “A surreal, dark fairytale set in Detroit, inspired by [Gosling’s} childhood imaginations of America while growing up in Canada.”

When Del Toro started poking fun at Gosling about the “Hey Girl” meme, the internet’s beloved dreamboat had to set the record straight once and for all.

“I understand if you’re in a movie and you say something like ‘I’ll be back,’ you own that. But I never said it,” Gosling giggled.

As sad as we are about Gosling never uttering the words he is most famous for, the thought of Ryan “Hey Girl” Gosling GIGGLING almost makes everything better.

Don’t cry, everyone, don’t cry, we’ll always have the memes…
