Potter’s mom, Robin Sinkhorn, told People that Spear gave Potter a promise ring during an oceanside picnic in Laguna Beach, California.
“He picked out the ring, made payments on it, and then planned the picnic and the moment to get down on one knee to ask her to promise to be his one-and-only and marry him when they are ready.”
Spear and Potter, who were both born with Down syndrome, have known each other pretty much since birth; their moms took them to the same infant therapy classes in Riverside, California. They became friends later in life, while living in Laguna, and got together after Potter ended another relationship.
“When Lauren ended a relationship, Timothy immediately asked her out and they have been together since,” said Sinkhorn.
Potter recently starred in Guest Room, a short film about Down syndrome, in which she plays a college girl who “questions her place in the world after an unplanned pregnancy.” The short is currently being made into a feature.
