Yesterday was a big day for us Gilmore Girls fans. We got a cast reunion (!!!!) at ATX Television Festival in Austin, and were told by GG creator Amy Sherman-Palladino that Melissa McCarthy ALMOST wasn’t Sookie (the horror, the horror!) We also got some straight talk from Sherman-Palladino re: a Gilmore Girls movie.

So, let’s give these movie rumors some context. Last month Scott Patterson (AKA our forever-beloved Luke) stopped by the Gilmore Guys podcast (where two amazing dudes watch/discuss every ep of Gilmore Girls, a must-listen for fans) and got Stars Hollow-lovers all kinds of excited when he mentioned “talks” about a GG movie.

“I can’t really go into any details, but there is some activity. I’m hopeful, and I’m in,” Patterson told the Gilmore Guys. “I think it would be a big event, and I think it would be a great fan celebration.”

Be still our hearts, will we see all our Gilmore favorites on the big screen?

So, bad news first, as Time reports, at ATX Sherman-Palladino shut down rumors that a GG movie is in the works rightthissecondnow.

“There’s nothing in the works at the moment,” Sherman-Palladino told the crowd.

To which we (all together now) say, “Nooooooooooooooooooooo!”

All right, now that we’re done with the bad news, let’s move on to the GOOD NEWS. There is TOTALLY a possibility that a Gilmore Girls movie will happen!

“Here’s the good thing: Nobody here hates each other. It would have to be the right everything – the right format, the right timing… it would have to be honored in a certain way,” Sherman-Palladino explained. “And if it ever came around, we would all jump in and do it. And if it ever happened, I promise you I’d do it correctly.”

All together now, guys, “YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!”

Patterson was very cute about his podcast appearance and putting the cart before the horse.

“It springs more from hopefulness,” Patterson explained re: his podcast talk.

That said, Patterson (like us) is still supes-optimistic about a movie happening.

“It’s kinda time, don’t you think?” Patterson asked the crowd

All the yes in the world Luke,  Scott,  all the yes in the world.
