Get Well Soon, Lady Gaga!
There might be a few sad little monsters out there. After postponing four of her Born This Way Ball shows last Tuesday, Lady Gaga has canceled the remainder of her tour dates due to a terrible performance injury. Reports say Gaga will need surgery for a “labral tear of the right hip”, yikes!
“I hid it from my staff, I didn’t want to disappoint my amazing fans,” Gaga tweeted. “However after last night’s performance I could not walk and still can’t.”
Despite the obvious disappointment, fans everywhere expressed their love and support, urging the star to put her health before her tour. However, canceling tour dates is no cheap task. Live Nation, the global promoters of Gaga’s tour will lose out on some serious revenue. According to Dave Brooks, managing editor of Venues Today, “Live Nation will eat the majority of the cost on this — big costs things like staging, building a production — it’s like developing an airplane, they have a huge upfront cost that you hope to make up on shows, so they miss out on that. It’s going to be costly for them.”
But putting things into perspective, Brooks continues “Honestly, the biggest issue is her health; at the end of the day, she’s taking the short term loss to protect her long term brand. I guarantee you is exponentially more important than two dozen shows. That’s a set amount of money, that’s not going to change, but if she could never perform again, that will be catastrophic.”
Let’s all hope for a speedy recovery. Get well soon, Mother Monster.
