Here's how 'Fuller House' will explain Michelle's absence
When Fuller House lands on Netflix, there will actually be a missing family member. That’s because — even though we wished and hoped otherwise — Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen will not be reprising their role as littlest Tanner sister, Michelle. But wait: This does not mean they still won’t be part of the new Full House world.
This past summer, middle-child Stephanie, aka Jodie Sweetin, explained that even though Michelle is MIA, she’ll still have a “presence” on the show. Instead of treating her as a character that never happened in the first place, there will still be references and allusions to grown-up Michelle, and now we know exactly what that means. Mild Fuller House spoilers ahead, if you don’t want to know anything about the reboot.
According to US Weekly, the reason Michelle isn’t hanging around in San Francisco is because she’s currently living in New York City. What’s she doing there? In a case of life-imitates-art, Michelle is “working on creating her fashion empire,” just like the Olsen twins are currently doing, too. They’ve actually already carved out a nice fashion empire, with not one but two lines, The Row and Elizabeth and James (not to mention their fashion lines from the ’90s and early 2000s, which we bought in bulk).
Even though Michelle won’t be seen on the show, she’ll still be referenced, as characters will bring her up in conversation from time to time, like you do with long-distance family members. US Weekly also shares that at one point, someone prank-calls Michelle and uses her best catchphrase, “you’ve got it dude!” Who calls her and why? My money’s on either Stephanie or Joey, but we’re going to have to binge all of Fuller House to find out.
