Friends was the show in the ’90s, but what was the cast up to before then? Where are they now? Don’t worry, we have all the answers for you! Sure, we will always think of them as Monica, Chandler, Rachel, Joey, Phoebe and Ross, but the six stars of the NBC series were actors way before they made it big on the comedy (and they’ve all kept bringing us awesome entertainment since).

Courteney Cox

Courteney will always be the crazy, clean freak, Monica, but before landing that role she was dancing on stage with The Boss. Seriously, Cox got her start my starring in Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” video, when she had a very short haircut and rocked a concert tee. After cementing her name in TV fame on Friends, she starred on Dirt and Cougar Town, which were both big hits. You can now see her on the big screen in Mothers and Daughters, which hit theaters on May 6!

Matthew Perry

The 46-year-old actor had his first acting job on 240-Robert in 1979. He then had a couple of guest appearances on TV shows until he landed the role of Chazz Russell on Second Chance. Once he won us over as Chandler on Friends, he jumped from TV show, to TV show, appearing on The Good Wife and Go On. He is now one of the two leads on The Odd Couple, which is currently in its second season. Plus, he is slated to play Ted Kennedy on The Kennedys After Camelot beginning in 2017.

ABC / CBS

Jennifer Aniston

Everyone on Friends is a mega star, but Jennifer has been everywhere. Her career actually started as a dancer in Mac and Me, which was a Ronald McDonald video. Her first memorable role however, was playing Courtney Walker on the short-lived show Molloy in 1989. Jen tried her hand at several TV shows before stealing the show as Rachel on Friends. Her most recent role is in Mother’s Day, in theaters now.

FOX / Open Road Films

Matt LeBlanc

Joey was SO good looking and Matt was equally sexy. The 48-year-old actor broke into the business with a short video called Doll Day Afternoon, where he played GI Joe. The next role he had was on the short-lived TV series, TV 101 in 1988 (pictured below). He hopped from TV series to TV series before breaking hearts as Joey for years. After his iconic role, he starred on the spinoff series Joey and now stars in Episodes.

CBS / Showtime

Lisa Kudrow

Ah, Phoebe! Before becoming the hippie songstress everyone wishes they were, Lisa starred in the TV movie, Married to the Mob and guest starred on Cheers in 1989. In 1992 she played Ursula (aka Phoebe’s evil twin) on Mad About You before her stint on Friends began. Since then she has starred on TV shows and in movies like Easy A and P.S. I Love You. Her most successful series have been The Comeback and Web Therapy, but most recently she guest starred on a few episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Plus, she will appear in the upcoming film Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising this month.

NBC / Netflix

David Schwimmer

David’s very first role was kind of like how Ross was in high school… nerdy. The actor played a dentist’s patient on Police! Squad in 1982. He then appeared in a few cop shows before becoming the paleontologist that actually seemed kind of cool (at times) on Friends. He followed up Friends with a LOT of movies, including all of the Madagascar films. He also guest starred on both Web Therapy (Lisa’s show) and Episodes (Matt’s show) before playing Robert Kardashian on The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. He is now filming Feed the Beast, which premieres this June on AMC.

ABC / AMC

These actors will always be our favorite Friends, but they’ve done so much else, both before and since the sitcom we love so much.
