Back in the early 2000s, the “I’m Real” remix by Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule was everywhere: on the radio, on mix CDs playing in our boom boxes, and forever stuck in your head. But apparently, many people have been singing one of the lyrics completely wrong this whole time — J.Lo’s very first line, in fact. And now, everyone can finally know the truth, thanks to Jezebel’s discovery.

In the beginning of the song, Ja Rule asks her, “What’s my m-f’in name?” and her response is kind of difficult to understand. Is she asking a question? Mumbling some words? Nope, what she actually does is spell out “R-U-L-E,” as in his name: Ja Rule.

The revelation is hitting people pretty hard.

Many people thought the lyric was J.Lo asking, “Are you Ellie?” and were shocked to learn that’s not what she was saying.

Others thought she was asking, “Are you ready?”

And some people knew the right lyrics all along.

The issue even trended on Twitter for a while.

So if you didn’t know, now you do: J.Lo wasn’t asking for Ellie. This is Ellie.

And to think that all this time we thought Ja Rule was the hard one to understand.
