Emma Watson's new movie just set a record
Emma Watson is literally taking over the world. Not only is she hard at work fighting gender inequality for the UN, but the international star is officially setting box office records around the world. This weekend, her new film Regression set this year’s record for opening-weekend gross earnings for a domestic film in Spain, with an impressive $2.87 million in earnings, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The film, directed by Alejandro Amenabar, is a psychological thriller starring Watson, Ethan Hawke and fellow Harry Potter co-star David Thewlis. Hawke plays a detective who discovers a satanic cult while investigating an unspeakable crime. Watson plays Angela, the Minnesota teen who leads to the uncovering of the cult.
The film made up about 40 percent of box office sales in Spain for the past weekend. Sadly, US audiences won’t get to see the film until next year, as it hits theaters in early February. Until then, this intense trailer will have to hold us over.
