Here's a first look at Disney's newest princess, Elena of Avalor, and we're in love
Are you ready for the newest Disney Princess to become absolutely obsessed with? Great, because she’s here.
Say hello to Elena of Avalor.
Her brand new show on Disney Channel, also called Elena of Avalor, follows Elena, a 16-year old princess, who suddenly finds herself in line to rule her entire Kingdom. Oh, also, she was trapped in a magical amulet for 41-years, and was recently set free by another Disney Princess, Sofia the First, but that is a story for another day.
And yes, this might be an animated cartoon aimed at children between the ages of 5 and 13, but guess what, WE LOVE IT. Elena is the first Disney Princess of Hispanic descent, and just casually wondering, when can we start meeting her in the Disney Parks IRL for a thousand pictures? Elena lives in Avalor, which draws on Aztec-inspired architecture, and the show will include original songs in styles like mariachi, salsa and Chilean hip-hop.
Also, what might be even better, is that Elena is not here for your love story.
“We really wanted to steer clear of romance,” Nancy Kanter, the Disney executive overseeing the show, explained to the New York Times. “She has male friends, as teenage girls obviously do, but we did not want it tinged with, ‘Ooh, they’re falling in love.’”
Instead, Elena does things like: sword fight (multiple times), play the guitar, horseback ride, and even fly.
The series premieres on July 22nd at 7 p.m. on Disney Channel, but it’s available right now on the Disney Channel app. We are here for this.
