Don't panic, but Sporty Spice (aka Mel C) might have just teased a proper Spice Girls reunion (but there's one catch)
We don’t want to alarm anyone or send anyone into a panic, but Mel C (aka Sporty Spice) might have just teased a potential Spice Girls comeback, and here’s what we know…
It’s no secret that rumors of a Spice Girls reunion surface nearly every year. Last year in particular was a hot bed of discussions, with Mel B, Emma Bunton, and Geri Horner neé Halliwell seeming to confirm that a 20th anniversary event would be taking place. This news, however, was met with some trepidation from Mel C, who said that her Spice days were well and truly behind her. Add to that the fact that Victoria Beckham (aka Posh) has been particularly resistant to a reunion, and it didn’t seem that likely at all.
Despite their protestations, however, both Victoria and Mel C have teamed up together for an impromptu Spice reunion, and Victoria even embraced her Spice Girls past during a recent appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Indeed, Victoria seemed to be getting *pretty* into the performance of “Spice Up Your Life.”
Well, adding fuel to the fire is Mel C, who recently revealed that she had a feeling that something might be on the horizon.
Dropping by Ireland’s The Ray D’Arcy Show, the show’s host, Ray, spoke about how he had a feeling that Victoria might be coming around to a Spice Girls reunion.
Looking fairly sheepish and like she knew more than she was letting on, Mel C said she “had a sneaky feeling that something might happen.”
Mel has previously spoken about how, following the Spice Girls’ epic performance at the 2012 Olympics in London, she wanted to “bow out on a high note.”
Despite this, during an interview with The Irish Times, Mel C said that she hadn’t ruled out performing with the group again, but that it would have to be as a five-piece.
“I’m not saying that I would never perform with the girls again because you really don’t know what the future holds – but at this point, I think it really only could be five,” she explained. “The Spice Girls was a five-piece and our individuality is our strength, so with somebody missing, it’s not complete. So that’s pretty much how I feel about it. I know lots of bands historically have got back together to make a few quid, or whatever…but to me, Spice Girls is more important than that.”
Okay, so from what we’ve gathered Mel C is willing to reunite with the Spice Girls, but only if Victoria takes part, too. And while we know that she hasn’t exactly confirmed a reunion, it seems that there’s definitely softening of her resolve to leave the band in the past.
We totally get wanting to leave the memory of the Spice Girls in the past and on a high note with the Olympics, but the idea of all five girls with the power of Spice reuniting and becoming a part of our lives is too exciting to ignore.
Hopefully Mel C’s hunch about Victoria Beckham is right and we’ll soon see Scary, Sporty, Baby, Ginger, and Posh all together again for another EPIC reunion. GIRL POWER.
