Here's the deleted 'Mockingjay — Part 1' scene we didn't even know we needed
Coming back from a long weekend is rough. To make it a little easier to transition into a new week, Lionsgate was sweet enough to give us a deleted scene from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1. I swear to you, watching it does make this winter’s day a little bit better. But it also makes us freak out about a thousand times over because in this deleted scene from the most recent movie, Peeta tries to stare down President Snow — and he kinda loses.
Peeta isn’t seen a whole lot in Mockingjay — Part 1, and that’s because the Capitol has him held hostage, tightly locked away and completely under their control. As this scene shows us, though, Peeta wasn’t all “rah rah go Capitol!” from the very beginning (as those who read the books and believed Katniss in the movie already know). In fact, he wasn’t on board with them at all, and in this scene we see him tell President Snow that he’s tired of all the bloodshed and wants to see it stopped STAT.
Then President Snow, in the most soothing and also the creepiest voice of all time, basically tells Peeta that the Capitol owns him, and there’s literally nothing he can do about it. President Snow isn’t asking for Peeta’s cooperation, he’s telling him to cooperate. The Baker’s Son will be the “voice of reason for the Capitol.” Also he’s completely under the Capitol’s thumb. And another also, OMG Peeta.
The clip is so chilling and intense, it’s probably best this was cut from the movie because we might not have been able to actually handle it on the big screen. And if this still isn’t enough of a Mockingjay fix for you today, it’s now available on Digital HD. The actual DVD drops on March 6th. And there are like, only nine more months until Mockingjay — Part 2 is in theaters! Over and out.
