Rumors of who might be playing James Bond circulate constantly. This year alone it was heavily suggested that Tom Hiddleston might take on the role of the iconic British spy, while there’s always conversations about whether it’s *FINALLY* time for a woman to play Bond.
Despite all this, it was reported that Sony had offered Daniel Craig a whopping $150 million to continue to play the role.
We’ll be honest, we were pretty shocked to learn this news. Mainly as it followed Daniel Craig’s colorful comments to Time Out about whether he’d reprise the role…
So it may come as a bit of a surprise that Daniel Craig isn’t as done with Bond as he initially suggested.
Speaking at the New Yorker Festival, the actor said that, actually, he rather liked being James Bond after all.
The cynics in us are putting this down to the rumored payment that Sony have offered Daniel. However, it was also reported that Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson were very keen for the actor to return to the franchise.
Tbh, it’s understandable why those in charge of all things Bond would want Daniel Craig to return to the role. While not every recent outing of the franchise has been well received (the less said about Quantum of Solace the better), the actor has been credited with giving James Bond a much needed boost. In fact, 2012’s Skyfall had the biggest opening weekend in the U.S. of any Bond film ever, and the movie has so far earned over $1 billion.
We’re not going to complain, either. We really love what Daniel Craig brings to the role and we’ve loved seeing how his Bond has been different to those that have gone before him. It’s gritty and real, and we feel that Bond has become a flawed and relatable character. We therefore welcome more!
Having said that, however, we certainly do feel like NOW is the time for a female Bond…Gillian Anderson perhaps?
