If you didn’t spend last night watching the epic, bizarre, (and somewhat controversial) Miss Universe pageant, here’s what went down: Miss Colombia, Paulina Vega, won. Miss USA, Nia Sanchez, came in second. There were the standard bikini parades, some awkward moments, and a few tears. But the real drama was all in the national costume portion of the contest.

However you feel about the whole beauty contest thing (and we have PLENTY of thoughts), it’s hard to look away from the insanely sparkly and huge and outrageous Miss Universe costumes, because HELLO glitter and feathers.

In the “costume” category (yes, that’s a thing), each contestant brought a whole lot of flare to the stage that reflected her country’s identity. It was kind of amazing to behold. Especially since some of these costumes look like they could weigh a thousand pounds. Like, sometimes I struggle to just put on a strapless bra —I can’t imagine how much prep work and time goes into these intricate ensembles. Just have a looksie:

Elvira Devinamara, Miss Indonesia (The costume category winner, FYI!)

Valentina Ferrer, Miss Argentina

Chanel Beckenlehner, Miss Canada

Josefin Donat, Miss Germany

Noyonita Lodh, Miss India

Johana Riva, Miss Uruguay

Migbelis Castellanos, Miss Venezuela

Marianne Page, Miss Sri Lanka

Kaci Fennel, Miss Jamaica

Kimberly Castillo, Miss Dominican Republic

Marline Barberena, Miss Nicaragua
