Some college kids put a pineapple in a museum and convinced everyone it was modern art
In an event that made us all say “uh, same,” some students left a pineapple in an art exhibition and everybody was like “wow, what great art” because modern art is a confusing phenomenon to everybody, apparently. Ruairi Gray and his friend Lloyd Jack brought a pineapple to a museum and set it on an empty display stand at the Look Again modern art exhibition at the Robert Gordon University in Scotland. Four days later when they returned to see if the pineapple had remained, it had been placed inside its own glass display case. We have a lot of questions about who running an art exhibition looked at this mystery fruit and was like ah, yes, art. Let me get it a case.
"I came in later and it had been put in a glass case — it's the funniest thing that has happened all year. My honours [sic] supervisor saw it and asked an art lecturer if it was real because he could not believe it."
Luckily, even those involved with the exhibition found the event funny. Natalie Kerr, an assistant for the art exhibit, said she wasn’t responsible for the glass case over the pineapple — and wouldn’t have been, because she’s allergic. #Priorities
“It’s a bit of a mystery – the glass is pretty heavy and would need two or three people to move it, we have no idea who did it. But it’s still there now, we decided to keep it because it’s keeping with the playful spirit of this commission.”
We love this hilarious, accidental work of art, and hope that unsuspecting festival attendees had a lot to say about it.
