The 2017 Academy Awards will largely be remembered for their massive Best Picture screw-up. But for friends and colleagues of Bill Paxton, the 2017 Oscars will forever be marred by his sudden death due to complications from heart surgery.

From actors and directors who worked with Paxton for years to those who shared only a few meaningful conversations with him, everyone had positive words to say about the Apollo 13, Twister, and Aliens star throughout Hollywood’s biggest night.

Through our tears, we bring you some of our favorites…

1 Jennifer Aniston

Before introducing the Oscars In Memoriam segment, Aniston gave a shout-out to Paxton, saying “Each and every one [of those in the segment] was a cherished member of our Hollywood family, as was beloved actor and friend who left us just yesterday – Bill Paxton” while choking back tears.

“All were loved, and all will be missed,” she concluded.

Goodwin, who starred alongside Paxton for years on HBO’s Big Love, attended the Oscars in support of her Best Animated Film-winning movie Zootopia.

On the red carpet, she told Entertainment Tonight that it felt “wrong” coming to the Oscars mere hours after learning of her friend’s death, adding that her husband Josh Dallas convinced her it’s what Paxton would have wanted.

Hidden Figures star Powell also paid tribute to Paxton — his costar in the movie Red Wing — on the carpet, explaining to CBS News why the actor meant so much to him personally.

“Bill Paxton passed away last night, and he was the first guy I called when I got Hidden Figures,” Powell explained. “I just want to give him a shoutout and say we love you, Bill. It’s a huge, huge loss, especially being that young…He was always obsessed with space. He was always obsessed with the romance of space and what it meant. We spoke during the whole research part of this movie. I was asking him about all the capsule stuff. He’s got copious notes from when he did Apollo 13.”

Cameron wasn’t at the Oscars for once, but the director — who worked with Paxton on Aliens, True Lies, The Terminator, Titanic, and Ghosts of the Abyss — released a stunning open letter asking his Hollywood brethren to think of Paxton during the festivities.

Much like Cameron, Paxton’s Apollo 13 director Howard also spent his Sunday writing a thoughtful, articulate tribute to his fallen friend.

It read,

6 Jamie Lee Curtis

Curtis wasn’t at the Oscars either, but she let her feelings for her True Lies costar out on Twitter.

7 Jordan Peele

Peele, who spent his weekend making history and earning rave reviews with his movie Get Out, took time out of his Sunday to pay tribute to Paxton.

8 Chris Evans

Evans, who presented at the Oscars and brought his sister as his hot date, felt Paxton’s loss heavily throughout the evening.

9 Charlize Theron

…And so did Charlize Theron, who presented alongside Shirley MacLaine. She starred with Paxton in Mighty Joe Young back in ’98, and the two remained friends over the following 20 years.

10 Helen Hunt

Pretty much everyone who has ever worked with Paxton has only had incredible things to say.

11 Tom Hanks

Because, as Tom Hanks himself put it, he was “simply, a wonderful man.”

We send love and healing to Paxton’s friends and family, and will surely miss seeing the only actor killed by a Terminator, a Xenomorph, and a Predator create iconic moments on the big screen.
