The incredible casting news for the live-action Beauty and The Beast just keeps on coming! The latest star to sign on for the film is none other than Sir Ian McKellen — that’s right, Gandalf (or Magneto depending on where your nerd love lies) has joined the cast! McKellen will be playing Cogsworth, the butler-turned-clock who tries to keep things in line at the castle.

McKellen will be joining a star-studded cast, including Dan Stevens as The Beast, Emma Watson as Belle, Kevin Kline as Belle’s father and Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts. I’m not even sure how they could possibly make this cast even better, unless they found a real-life talking and dancing candle holder to play Lumiere.

McKellen is, of course, one of the UK’s most accomplished actors. He’s literally a star of stage and screen, packing theaters in box office films and acclaimed plays. And as if that’s not enough to win your admiration, he and Patrick Stewart are the most adorable best friends who have ever graced the planet. I also just became aware that he’s starring in another Bill Condon (director of Beauty and The Beast) film, in which he will play a 93-year-old Sherlock Holmes and for which I am out of my mind excited.

Every announcement we get from Beauty and The Beast makes it sound better and better, and we cannot wait to see this movie! It doesn’t hit theaters until March 2017, but we’re already obsessed!
