No one will soon forget the first day of June 2015, when Caitlyn Jenner introduced herself to the world via a spectacular Vanity Fair cover. Caitlyn, a woman who was assigned male at birth, made her brave, high-profile debut to society marking a watershed moment for LGBTQ rights as well as, clearly, a watershed moment for Caitlyn.

“This shoot was about my life and who I am as a person,” Caitlyn told Vanity Fair earlier this month. “It’s not about the fanfare, it’s not about people cheering in the stadium, it’s not about going down the street and everybody giving you ‘that a boy, Bruce,’ pat on the back, O.K. This is about your life.”

Now, we’re SO excited for her brand new E! series, I Am Cait, which will shed further light onto Caitlyn’s personal journey as well as the trans experience. The show will debut on July 26th, one month from today. According to Caitlyn’s Vanity Fair interview, the goals of the show are not only to tell Caitlyn’s story, but to increase trans visibility and to address the tragically high rates of suicide and attempted suicide in the transgender community.

While the first trailer for the show came out just two days after Caitlyn’s Vanity Fair cover debuted, E! just recently released a brand new clip from the docu-series. It has us totally misty-eyed.

The clip starts with Caitlyn in an absolutely stunning peach dress, looking out at the scenery from her balcony. She first addresses a question that has been a source of controversy: Why she is doing a series? She quickly explains her reasoning in just a few simple words: “Why did I decide to do a series?” she says. “I’m telling my story.”

“People don’t understand looking into the mirror and nothing seems right,” she explains in the minute-long clip. “Putting on clothes that you just really don’t identify with. This is about getting to be who you really are.”

Laid over clips of Caitlyn hugging her family, the Olympian continues: “We’re gonna talk about everything. We’re gonna do a lot of fun things for the first time. We’re gonna go shopping for the first time. Maybe some boy stuff, like ride a motorcycle. Because girls do that too.”

The clip ends with just a few, powerful words. “It’s going to be quite a journey,” Caitlyn concludes. “We’re going to do some good.”

We are so excited for Caitlyn’s new show. In just one short minute, it’s clear that I Am Cait will be a real, down-to-earth depiction of Caitlyn’s life as a transgender woman. It’s so essential to have more transgender voices in the media — especially from someone who has struggled with her identity for so many years.

Jill Soloway, creator of the excellent show Transparent spoke to Variety about the wisdom and power of these individuals who have grown through so many years of personal discovery: “I feel like the change in the transgender community has happened because of the lived lives of trans people,” Soloway  told Variety. She also elaborated on Jenner’s prominence in the media and how that will help the trans community as well. “Sometimes I just trip on the fact that [Caitlyn Jenner is] the patriarch of the most famous family on the planet. There’s an international resonance with people recognizing that trans people are people, too.”

“The whole family transitions because everybody’s changing,” Soloway continued. “If one person becomes more authentic, everyone comes to be more authentic . . . There’s the glamorous part of being trans, then there’s the reality, which is the trans movement is just starting.” From these early clips it appears Caitlyn’s show will address both the reality and the glamour.

We still have another month until the first episode airs on July 26th, but in the meantime, watch the entire clip here, and be prepared to be hit in the feels.
