There's a new "Devil Wears Prada" sequel, which means all is right in the world
After everything Andy and Miranda put her through in the OG Devil Wears Prada, fellow assistant Emily (played by Emily Blunt in the movie) deserves a little time in the spotlight. And that’s what Devil Wears Prada author Lauren Weisberger is giving her — and us — in her next TDWP novel, When Life Gives You Lululemons.
And heck yes, MORE EMILY PLEASE.
In a sneak peek of Lululemons’ first chapter, which arrives via Entertainment Weekly, we find our girl Emily has left her days at Runway behind her to put out high-profile image fires — Olivia Pope-style — in the Connecticut suburbs. Her first crisis? Keeping the fact that a drunken Bieber-like pop star named Rizzo was photographed at a New Year’s Eve after-party in a Nazi costume. Yikes.
The full excerpt is packed with references to actual celebrities and real-life situations — Emily’s partying at Gigi Hadid’s place, Prince Harry’s scandal with a Nazi Halloween costume, Rizzo had performed at Ryan Seacrest’s NYE event, etc. — and wraps up with Emily ditching the party (and her disappointed husband) to fly back to the original book’s stomping grounds of New York City.
There’s no mention of Andy showing up so far, or Miranda for that matter.
But with her being hit by a car and being passed over for the Paris trip the first time around, we’d understand if post-Runway Emily wanted to keep her distance. Then again, when Weisberger revisited her Devil Wears Prada characters in the 2013 sequel, Revenge Wears Prada, Andy and Emily had made up and teamed up (again) — to run a popular bridal magazine. There was no movie version of that one (critical reception…wasn’t great), but who knows?
Maybe an Emily-fronted story (with definitely *no terrible Nate*) would fare better on the big screen. And maybe Meryl would make our dreams come true and slip her Miranda Priestly stilettos back on for old time’s sake, too. In the meantime, we’ll look forward to the book: When Life Gives You Lululemons hits bookshelves on June 5th, 2018.
