If you were a Dr. Seuss kid, there’s a definite chance that you’re familiar with little Cindy Lou Who, the hero of the Christmas classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas! If not, how about her cartoon incarnation from the 1966 animated TV film version? No? Maybe the 2000 live-action version with Sir Jim Carrey?

In case you’re unfamiliar with the plot of How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, here’s a refresher. Essentially, a green, hairy, beasty character decides to steal Christmas from the Whos because he can’t relate to their cheerful community. His only friend is a dog (with poor taste in companions). But Cindy Lou Who — by questioning the true meaning of Christmas and helping the Grinch see that he is loved, at least by her — is the catalyst for the Grinch’s heart growing three sizes. She stands up against the whole town and saves Christmas — how’s that for a heartfelt feminist holiday story?

Here’s the evolution of Ms. Cindy Lou Who, for reference:

She’s just a teensy-tiny little Who-thing in the original story.

Can we also get away with wearing an eggnog- and dessert-themed hat this holiday season?

No matter which version of Cindy Lou Who we’re talking about, there’s something they all have in common: her search for the true meaning of Christmas and her little big heart.

Here’s to keeping what’s most important in mind this holiday season: love, for no matter who, no matter where, no matter when.
