It’s been an emotional month for TV season finales, and last night’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy was no exception. The show is no stranger to characters making shocking and dramatic exits, but when Dr. Callie Torres left, it hit us extra hard.

Callie is gone, and it sounds like she isn’t coming back. But actress Sara Ramirez and the show’s creator Shonda Rhimes want us to know that they’re feeling the loss too.

Ramirez had nothing but nice things to say about her experience on Grey’s, and says she’s ready to take some time off.

Rhimes echoed her positive sentiment, and said she’s always welcome back in Shondaland.

Callie wasn’t just a character in an ensemble; she was one Grey’s most important and most-loved faces for 10 years. Losing a favorite character is always tough, but we’re holding out hope that one day she’ll return. Like Rhimes said, Ramirez is a Shondaland friend for life.
