When The Simpsons returns for Season 27 this fall, one HUGE thing is going to happen: Bart Simpson is going to die.

Before you start freaking out, don’t worry too much. He’s not really going to die on the show, and it’s not as if he won’t be around for any future Simpsons seasons (like the already renewed Season 28). However, Bart will meet his fate in The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror Halloween episode when a long-time fan-favorite returns to Springfield, Sideshow Bob, voiced by Kelsey Grammer.  This time, when Sideshow Bob decides it’s time for death and destruction, it’s actually going to happen. And well, that (sort of) means the end of Bart.

This is what usually happens when Sideshow Bob shows up: He’s released from jail, he hatches a dastardly plan, he tries to kill Bart, Bart exposes his evil plan, Sideshow Bob is sent back to jail. It’s a funny endless cycle. But, you can only imagine what kind of grudge Sideshow Bob has against Bart, and this season, his plan to kill him will really work. At the ATX Festival Television Festival over the weekend, Simpsons executive producer Al Jean explained to how this year will be different.

Alluding to the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote from Looney Tunes, Jean explained that as a kid he “hated frustration comedy” so it’s about time that The Simpsons “scratch that itch.”

We’re going to see the Coyote catch the Road Runner, and Sideshow Bob is going to finally kill Bart.

Which, um, isn’t cool.

This death will then make Sideshow Bob reevaluate his life, seeing as how his only purpose in life (killing Bart) is now complete. The Simpsons is going there, you guys.

Thankfully, Bart’s death won’t stick. The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes usually break the show’s typical storyline and this one will be no exception. So even though we’ll see the end of Bart, he’ll be back for the next episode, and then the following hundred episodes after that. We’re just going to momentarily see him die, which is something I never thought would happen. This is going to be a weird Halloween. Glad we were warned!
