Every year, one of the best parts of Halloween is The Simpsons’ variety-show style “Treehouse of Horror” special. It’s always a little more humor than actual horror, but the stand-alone episodes never fail to surprise! And this year, one resident of Springfield will be getting a surprise they waited a long time for.

OK, we’re about to drop a mega-spoiler for this Sunday’s episode, so click away if you want to keep this ghastly news a surprise.

Sideshow Bob will finally succeed in killing Bart Simpson. I know. Dark stuff.

For decades, Sideshow Bob has been trying to do-in the eldest Simpson sibling. He even went so far as to get “Die Bart Die” tattooed on his chest! But of course, by the laws of cartoon heroes and Bart’s cunning, Sideshow Bob has never managed to succeed. But that is going to change during a short vignette titled “Wanted: Dead or Alive.”

EW shared a clip that shows Bart’s various demises, and executive producer Al Jean shared that although Bart will be dying, that’s not the only focus of the short.

“You never saw the Road Runner lose,” he told EW. “This time you do. We deal with how Bob would really feel once he accomplished this goal he’s had his whole life.”

While the immediate terror of seeing one of the main characters get the axe temporarily is one thing, Sideshow Bob is likely in for a whole different kind of horror once his all-consuming goal is reached. That, much like Bart keeling over at the sight of a sky-high electric bill, is the kind of real life nightmare that can keep you up at night!

But remember, it’s a cartoon. Bart will totally bounce back. . . we think.

You can see the exclusive clip over at EW now! And get ready for “Treehouse of Horror XXVI,” airing on Sunday!
