Taylor Swift's mom gave the sweetest speech about her daughter at the ACM Awards
At the ACM Awards (that’s Academy of Country Music Awards for you newbs) Sunday night, Taylor Swift was honored with the Milestone Award. Rather than being introduced by another celebrity, Taylor’s mother, Andrea, gave the loveliest tribute I have ever heard before introducing her daughter.
Now, maybe, it’s just because I happen to also be close to my mother, but it was in watching Andrea talk about Taylor that I really and truly related to her. The relationship between celebrity and fan has always been a weird one. We put them on a pedestal, treat them like gods instead of people. This was the first time I really saw Taylor as a fellow 20-something (albeit, a very rich and successful one), just trying to figure herself out like the rest of us.
My favorite quote from Andrea: “And I witnessed a young girl with very few friends become a young woman with many, learning to stand up for herself and the things she believes in, being brave enough to explore her musical curiosity, having a voice against those who hate, and giving of herself to those in need.”
Also this very emotional hug:
Fans know that this is a very emotional time for the Swifts as Taylor announced just a few weeks ago that her mother is battling cancer. This stage is also an emotional one for Taylor because country music was the genre that first embraced her, country music is her roots. We are wishing Andrea well, congratulating Taylor, and calling our moms (because this is a speech all about the beauty that is mother/daughter bonds).
