Amy's Baking Company, And Other Reality Phenomenons We Wish Would Call It Quits
I had a feeling that we’d be seeing Amy’s Baking Company again! For those of you who might have missed the famous train-wreck that took Kitchen Nightmares viewers by storm, here’s a brief summary: Power-couple Amy and Samy Buzaglo own a bakery in Scottsdale, Arizona. During the episode, it became clear that they weren’t giving their wait staff tips, and that they had fired approximately 50 employees in just a year. The food they made took too long to actually reach their customers, and was also pretty terrible in quality. Even worse, the two bullied customers and made a wide range of threats on the internet, after their Yelp reviews weren’t to their liking.
Of course that meant that eventually, someone would be handing them their own reality show. And of course they accepted the offer. While the network and the start date of the show haven’t yet been revealed, they insist it is happening.
Reality TV is an amazing thing – while some who volunteered to be on screen have accepted that the opportunity is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, others thrive on it and try to make it a career. Here are a few other reality TV stars who might have overstayed their welcome.
1. Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag
Heidi got her start on Laguna Beach after she befriended Lauren Conrad back in 2005. She was once a pretty amazing person, yet her experience on camera seemed to make her personality do a complete 180. Meeting her husband Spencer through The Hills, which was a spin-off, the two of them became “villains” and have continued to portray unlikable humans with every chance they get.
The pair married in 2009, and have tried to do everything they could to stay in the spotlight. In 2010, Montag released her debut studio album Superficial which made less money than it took to produce. She also spent a bunch of time and money on unnecessary plastic surgery, which made her the queen of tabloids. In 2010 she participated in Famous Food, where she and several celebrities competed for a restaurant partnership, and this year, both Spencer and Heidi competed on the British version of Big Brother.
The two know so much about trying to fight for airtime that they wrote a book about it, called “How to Be Famous: Our Guide to Looking the Part, Playing the Press, and Becoming a Tabloid Fixture”.
2. Boston Rob
Listen – he seems like a heck of a nice guy. But there’s no reason why Rob Mariano deserves so much screen time – even being interviewed on Survivor reunions for seasons he was never even on. Him and his wife Amber, who he met while playing the game, were also featured on The Amazing Race, and had a two-hour televised wedding special. Two hours?!
The couple also filmed a 10-episode show for the Fox Reality Channel, Rob and Amber: Against the Odds, which aired in 2007 and focused around Rob’s dream of becoming a professional poker player, which is now no longer a thing.
3. Farrah Abraham
This former Teen Mom just doesn’t know when to call it quits. The most recent news? She’s signed up for the reality show Couples Therapy… by herself. She’ll be there to discuss “what she’s doing wrong with relationships.” If you’ve watched a few episodes of Teen Mom, you probably already know what she’s doing wrong.
Farrah also tried to launch a singing career after the show ended, and also wrote a book filled with pretty vapid passages regarding how attractive she is. Yes, I read it.
Let’s not forget about the porno. While she originally tried to make it seem like a sex tape had leaked, it was definitely an adult film that Farrah knowingly signed onto. She made claims that it was in celebration of her hot body, and that she hoped her daughter Sophia would one day watch it. Pretty gross.
4. Teresa Giudice
TV Guide recently claimed Teresa to be one of the “Nastiest Villains of All Time” in a list this year. I’m not sure how she ranks up against The Grinch and The Hamburglar, but she’s probably worse than both of them.
Teresa joined the cast of The Real Housewives of New Jersey in 2009, but notoriously dropped out of production four times before they even began filming. Thankfully she decided to stay, so she could serve as a poor representation of New Jersey for the entire country.
Giudice joined the cast of the reality competition The Celebrity Apprentice, but didn’t make it to the end. She’s also written a bunch of books since appearing on television. While she might have a successful business model going, who wants to continue seeing a really mean person on television all the time?
5. Snooki and JWoww
Speaking of poor representations of New Jersey (I’m from there, so I have to defend it!) let’s end the list with Snooki and JWoww, from Jersey Shore. The two currently have their own spin-off series, called – well – Snooki & JWoww, which just entered its third season.
Finding a filming location for their first season was tough, based on public outcry. When they eventually got the go-ahead to film in Jersey City, numerous local restaurants and bars refused for them to film, or even enter the premises.
The show has covered Snooki’s pregnancy, JWoww’s engagement, and the wedding planning that both are in the midst of. While many figured that Snooki giving birth to son Lorenzo might mark the end of her reality career, Lorenzo is in the spotlight just as much as she is.
What reality stars are you tired of seeing? Will you be tuning in to see Amy and Samy once their reality show hits television?
