Alex (aka Miles Heizer) from "13 Reasons Why" wants you to know your theory about his character's fate is wrong
With Season 2 of 13 Reasons Why officially happening, we’re hoping a lot of our unanswered questions from Season 1 will finally be resolved. And while the cast and crew are playing coy about what we can and can’t expect, a few of our questions have already been addressed. In particular, we’ve learned what really happened to Alex (played by Miles Heizer) and what could possibly happen with him going forward into Season 2. Be forewarned: Spoilers for Season 1 (and possibly hints at what’s to come in Season 2) lie ahead.
Season 1 of 13 Reasons Why ended with the shocking (kinda?) revelation that Alex had received a critical gunshot wound to the head. Many fans immediately jumped to the conclusion that Tyler (Devin Druid) was behind this horrific incident. However, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Heizer was quick to dismiss this increasingly popular fan theory.
The truth of the matter is, Alex’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted. In fact, the whole season had been increasingly hinting at this potential outcome, drawing parallels between Alex and Hannah (Katherine Langford). Heizer told THR, “It was interesting to see similarities between Alex and Hannah, because there are a lot of warning signs throughout the season.” But just because Alex was critically injured doesn’t necessarily mean the wound was fatal — or that we won’t be seeing more of Miles Heizer come Season 2.
In the same interview, the actor hinted that Alex could have very well survived his suicide attempt, and that Season 2 could involve taking a look at the issues and complications that would come about as a result. He stated:
Of course, this is all conjecture and speculation as of now. But one thing is for sure: Season 2 of 13 Reasons Why is shaping up to be just as complicated and compelling as Season 1.
