There’s nothing I’m better at than beating jokes to death. My childhood friends and I occasionally exchange texts and emails about silly life events that happened more than a decade ago, so I understand the desire to laugh about something until it just isn’t funny anymore. Much of the Internet falls into this category as well, and though online memes can be delightful and hilarious distractions, they get old real fast. Here are ten memes that are probably ready to retire, so take a good look at them before starting a new chapter in your online lives.

10. “Adele Dazeem”

I know it’s still fresh in your minds, but we might be mocking someone’s speech issues here. In case you’re unfamiliar with the gaffe-turned-meme, a visibly edgy John Travolta mispronounced Frozen singer Idina Menzel’s name at the 2014 Oscars, introducing her as “Adele Dazeem” in a bizarre accent. Before he admitted to “beating [himself] up all day” for the awkward moment, the web roasted Travolta for 24 hours straight. A fake Twitter handle for “Adele” quickly appeared online and Slate created the explosive Adele Dazeem Name Generator, where users can see how Travolta would pronounce their names (for what it’s worth, I’m Lara Dizuncan, good for me). The whole thing was bizarre, but even seasoned celebrities like the Grease legend get stage fright at times, and if it’s true that he might suffer from dyslexia, the teasing could feel a bit excessive. Either way, time to giggle about something else.

9. McKayla Maroney Is Not Impressed

She demonstrated a good attitude about the popular meme when she and President Barack Obama recreated the face at The White House, and that should have put it to rest for good. We’ve since moved onto the Winter Olympics and Maroney surely wants to discuss athletics more than goofy web favorites right now.

8. Grumpy Cat

I am a huge fan of “Grumpy Cat,” aka Tardar Sauce from Arizona. It’s still important to let animal be animals, and at less than two years old, Grumpy Cat could probably use some time to grow and live outside the public eye. And let’s be real: If Grumpy Cat is as rude as we’d all like to think she is, she probably wants us to get lives and leave her alone anyway.

7. Thug Life

Not even funny anymore!

6. Any Miley Cyrus VMA meme

It’s been more than six months since the uncomfortable VMAs, and forgetting about her unusual performance will free up space in our brains for other things, like new memes.

5. Hey Girl

The Hey Girl meme is nice for those of us (read: all of us) who don’t personally know Ryan Gosling, but I’d rather hear what he has to say than what others think he would say.

4. Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That

Ain’t nobody got time for that anymore.

3. Success Kid

I never found this image cute, and it’s also outdated now that the child is far past his toddler years.

2. Putin With Cute Animals

Especially now that he just, you know, invaded Ukraine and all. Don’t be fooled by memes — he’s not particularly cuddly right now!

1. Annoying Facebook Girl

The meme is both cruel and unpleasant, and this young lady certainly isn’t the only one out there with unflattering enough pictures to inspire mean-spirited Internet sensations.
