Watch a reporter perfectly shut down sexist bullies on live TV

Being a woman in journalism has never been easy (just ask Nellie Bly). But as of late, the job has taken a nasty turn, especially for women doing live reporting. For whatever reason, the advent this past year of the “f**k her right in the p***y” meme, has totally taken over. It’s upsetting, disgusting, sexist, and involves male perpetrators ambushing live female reporters and yelling the phrase at the camera.

Most reporters can do nothing more than push culprits away and continue with their story, but this week, Canadian reporter Shauna Hunt, a frequent victim of the prank, decided to confront a group of guys who interrupted her while she was taping a segment about a local soccer match. The results may finally be the beginning of the end of this disgusting FHRITP craze.

In the video, Hunt takes the group of men to task for waiting around for their perfect moment to play the prank. She approaches them saying, “It’s a disgusting thing to say, it’s degrading to women” and she asks the group why they take joy in her humiliation. The men are unrepentant, mocking Hunt and claiming that the prank isn’t about her and “has everything to do with everyone else.” Another man joins the fray, calling the prank “hilarious,” and ultimately it appears that the men have walked away from the confrontation with the upper hand.

But since Canada’s City TV shared the run-in on YouTube, it has garnered 1.1 million views (and counting) and resulted in heightened security for female reporters filming at the soccer stadium in question. What’s more, the second man — you know, the one who calls the prank “hilarious” while repeatedly dropping the f-bomb — has already been tracked down and fired from his job at Hydro One, Ontario’s largest electricity provider. Apparently, he was making $106,510 a year.

As for the other men, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, the company that owns the soccer stadium, issued a statement saying that they’re actively looking for the men involved in the incident and plan on banning them from future games.

“When these men are yelling these things at us, it really puts reporters in an uncomfortable position and it just needs to stop,” Hunt told City TV on Tuesday morning. “[It happens] every single day. It’s not funny.”
