Rep. Ayanna Pressley clapped back at trolls who mocked her bald head, and it’s so on point

In January 2020, Representative Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts revealed she has alopecia, an autoimmune disease that results in total hair loss. She received the diagnosis in late fall 2019. Up until mid-January, Pressley was only ever bald “in the privacy of my home and in the company of close friends,” she told The Root. But now, as she’s opened up about her diagnosis, so many are speaking out in support of the congresswoman—while trolls are not being as kind. On February 6th, Pressley fired back at trolls who have called her “Mr. Clean” in such a great way.

"Dear Trolls. You really think I look like 'Mr. Clean'? Please. He never looked THIS clean," Pressley wrote in a tweet. "Sorry not sorry my unapologetically rockin' my crown triggers you. Proud #alopecian"

TBH, she’s right. Mr. Clean could never.

Coming out with her alopecia diagnosis was especially difficult for Pressley, whose Senegalese twists are just as famous as she is. “My twists have become such a synonymous and conflated part of not only my personal identity and how I show up in the world, but my political brand,” she said to The Root. “That’s why I think it’s important that I’m transparent about this new normal and living with alopecia.”

And her transparency has brought even more love and support in her direction.

Fellow Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responded to Pressley’s tweet, “They’re just mad because you pull off any & every look thrown at you.” Amen.

And even some of her political adversaries are giving her emotional support. Now this is the kind of country we want to live in.

If anything, Mr. Clean has Ayanna Pressley‘s look on his inspiration board. Okay? Okay.
