Hold onto your turkey leg, Jenji Kohan is making a Renaissance faire TV series

It’s time to bust out your flower crowns and harps because Lifetime has just ordered a Renaissance faire-centered series from Jenji Kohan.

The straight-to-order TV series called American Princess will follow Amanda, a New York City socialite who leaves her city life behind for a Renaissance faire after her wedding is called off. Jamie Denbo, who created and wrote the first season, will executive produce the series, alongside Kohan and her fellow Orange is the New Black and Glow executive producer Tara Herrmann. The first season will feature 10 hour-long episodes, and we have a feeling it’s going to be the next big Lifetime hit.

This is the Season 1 synopsis, as reported by Deadline:

"Amanda’s storybook wedding plans are dramatically derailed when she discovers her fiancé is cheating on her, just hours before they are to be wed. Outraged, Amanda reacts violently to the indiscretions and runs away from her own dream wedding in the countryside, only to find herself stranded in the middle of a Renaissance Faire with no phone and no way home.

“She soon discovers her outburst has made tabloid headlines and experiences a nervous breakdown, leading her to reevaluate her life. The unexpected awakening leads Amanda to leave everything she thought she cared about behind, to become the Faire’s newest wench-in-waiting.”

Seriously though, we need this show, like, yesterday!

This sounds like the perfect companion to Lifetime’s UnREAL, Mary Kills People, and You. And naturally, we’re not the only ones who’re excited. Lifetime can’t *wait* to add American Princess to its roster.

“Jenji has always taken interesting and unconventional worlds and given them heart and humor, said Liz Gateley, Lifetime’s executive VP and head of programming. “From the get-go, American Princess was a concept we loved as it’s incredibly relatable to want to parachute from one’s life in difficult times. In Jenji, Jamie, and Tara’s hands, we know this will be hilarious and special.

Hopefully we’ll be seeing American Princess in the next year or so!
