Reese’s sent this guy a mountain of free candy and a handwritten note after he complained about a peanut butter cup
Many of us have dreamed of coming home to a box full of free candy, but this guy is living that dream. Reese’s sent a guy a ton of free candy after he complained about getting a Reese’s peanut butter cup with no peanut butter in it, and we can now officially say we’re jealous.
As Alex Hentges told Insider, he was eating a bag of Reese’s peanut butter cups at work when he realized something was off about a couple of the cups — they weren’t squishy in the middle like they normally are when they’re filled with peanut butter. He broke them open, only to find solid chocolate — a huge bummer, considering you expect there to be PB in there, since, you know, it’s in the name.
Hentges posted the photo of his peanut butter-less Reese’s peanut butter cup on Reddit and Facebook, never expecting that it would go viral — but then, it did.
“I found it more funny than anything,” he admitted, saying that he was simply trying to show it off because he thought people on the r/MildlyInteresting subreddit would find it, well, mildly interesting. But as it turns out, a lot of people were outraged for him and his moment of true disappointment.
As soon as Reese’s caught wind of what happened to Hentges, they decided to make things right. On April 16th — just five days after his original Reddit post — he came home to find dozens of boxes from the candy company, filled with all kinds of Reese’s products, along with a handwritten note of apology.
“Sometimes, we like to remind people that you need both chocolate AND peanut butter, together, to have the perfect candy. This was one of those times,” the letter said. “And you were the unlucky person. Now that we’ve made our point, here’s enough chocolate AND peanut butter to make everything cool between us.”
And, as Hentges wrote in his Facebook photo caption, everything iscool. How could it not be, after a display of love like that?
Is it normal that we’re now keeping our fingers crossed that we, too, break into a solid chocolate peanut butter cup in the hopes that Reese’s might send us our own mountain of freebies? It’s a long shot, but we can dream.
