Reese Witherspoon And Ashton Kutcher Are Starring In a Netflix Rom-Com
...And I can't contain my excitement. Is it Feb. 10, 2023 yet?
We finally have details about *that* rom-com starring Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher.
A while back — 14 months, to be exact — Witherspoon shared she was “heading back to my rom-com roots!” via an Instagram post in which she tagged Kutcher, assumingly her love interest in the film.
Now, if you’re anything like me, you haven’t stopped thinking about the carousel of behind-the-scenes set photos ever since. Well, my friends, the day has come. We have a plot description, title, and release date. It’s really happening!
Coming to Netflix in 2023, Your Place or Mine follows lifelong friends and polar opposites Debbie (Witherspoon) and Peter (Kutcher) who agree to a temporary life-swap in hopes of finding a new perspective on life… and love.
People has the official description from Netflix: “She craves routine with her son in LA.; he thrives on change in NY. When they swap houses and lives for a week, they discover what they think they want might not be what they really need.”
And it gets better: Your Place or Mine is written by rom-com legend Aline Brosh McKenna, whose work includes 27 Dresses and The Devil Wears Prada. Speaking with People, McKenna revealed she drew inspiration from her own life while writing the script.
“It’s about love and getting out of your own way to find love and having the courage to take the leap to find it, and it’s meant to be written about people who have lived some and know who they are,” McKenna said.
“And [about] that chance that they’re taking to bridge the gap with each other and how they’re going to do that, given all the things they’ve undergone in the years since they’ve first met,” McKenna continued. “I’m hoping that really resonates with people, and makes them feel good in a time when I think we’re all looking for things that will make us feel great.”

Your Place or Mine is McKenna’s movie directorial debut. It’s also her first time collaborating with Kutcher.
“[Kutcher] walks that incredible line of [being] comedically so gifted, but [he] also can really be very grounded and very specific and real in his choices,” McKenna said of her leading man.
“And also, Ashton really loves female actors, and is one of those male actors who is not at all intimidated by the idea of having an equally powerful costar,” she adds.
Being two of the biggest rom-com celebrities from the early aughts, it’s nearly impossible to believe that it took until 2023 for Kutcher and Witherspoon to star in a romantic comedy together.
For Kutcher, signing onto the project was a no-brainer as Witherspoon and McKenna are “two women I have wanted to work with for years.”
“We just had fun!” Kutcher said of his costar. “I can talk to Reese about anything — acting, business, kids, media, football. She’s always game.”
Witherspoon was just as excited to work alongside the No Strings Attached star. “I think he’s so funny. We have a very similar sense of humor and timing,” she told the outlet.
The romantic comedy also features Jesse Williams, Zoë Chao, Wesley Kimmel, Rachel Bloom, Shiri Appleby, Steve Zahn, and Tig Notaro. Jason Bateman served as a co-producer on the project.
Your Place or Mine hits Netflix on Feb. 1, 2023, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
