Apple is releasing a red iPhone 8 this week, and here’s everything we know

Last year, Apple released a (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 7 to help raise awareness and funds for the (RED) campaign, which fights HIV and AIDS. iPhone users not only adored the color, but they contributed to an amazing cause. So to keep the good fight going, Apple will release a Special Edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.

This news comes from an April 9th Apple Newsroom announcement. The company stated that the (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 will be available to order online in select countries tomorrow, April 10th, and will be available in stores on Friday, April 13th.

But what if you just dropped money on an iPhone X? Don’t worry — you iPhone X-ers can get involved with the (RED) campaign too. Alongside the release of the (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, Apple is also introducing a (PRODUCT)RED iPhone X Leather Folio, available for purchase tomorrow, April 10th.

According to the Apple Newsroom announcement, a portion of all proceeds from (PRODUCT)RED purchases go directly towards “Global Fund HIV/AIDS grants that provide testing, counseling, treatment and prevention programs with a specific focus on eliminating transmission of the virus from mothers to their babies.”

Apple originally partnered with (RED) in 2006, and throughout their partnership, the company has donated over $160 million to the Global Fund.

Deborah Dugan, (RED)’s CEO, stated via the announcement, "The more than $160 million Apple has donated in the last 11 years today equates to more than 800 million days of lifesaving ARV medication that prevents the transmission of HIV from mothers to their babies. We’re honored that Apple has dedicated its resources to our purpose, and can’t wait to see customers bring our mission to life through the purchase of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition."

From a technical standpoint, the (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 and 8 Plus still contain all the goodness the original iPhone 8 and 8 Plus has to offer. And the stylish red back is paired with a sleek, all-black, glass front. Models will start at $699.

If you have yet to upgrade to an iPhone 8, or if you’re looking to become a part of a great cause, check out the (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. They’re beautiful, colorful, and helping fight back against HIV and AIDS.
