Recipes to pair with your fave TV shows: Part II
There’s nothing quite as enjoyable as binging on food and television. After enjoying the required research (taste testing and episode watching) of the last post, I’ve happily compiled another. Fair warning: once word gets out that you’ve become a phenomenal TV-marathon-host and chef, your weekends will be booked.
Enjoy!
Big Bang Dumplings
Sheldon Cooper takes his eating habits very seriously. It’s Thai take-out on Mondays, The Cheesecake Factory on Tuesdays, and Chinese food on Fridays. In season 1, the gang encounters a dilemma while Wolowitz is out with his new girlfriend.
Sheldon: Fine, what do you want to eliminate, and who gets the extra dumpling.
Raj: We could cut it into thirds.
Sheldon: Then it is no longer a dumpling, once you cut it open it is at best a very small open faced sandwich.
Dude’s got a point.
You could either follow Iris Lee Tsai’s Pork and Ginger Pot Stickers recipe (dough and filling) or Kelsey Nixon’s Pork Dumplings recipe (with dumpling wrappers). Sheldon’s ordering take-out.
Unbreakable Lo Mein
As Dong points out, delivering (and ordering) Chinese food can be depressing . . . but whipping up something of your own isn’t! Especially when it’s Rachel Ray’s No-Pain Lo Mein recipe. Rooting for you, Dong.
Suzanne’s No-Bake Pie
This is my favorite line from Orange is the New Black. She threw her pie for you, Piper! That means something! Suzanne could easily whip herself up this No-Bake Key Lime Pie within the confines of Litchfield- but only with permission from the reigning kitchen master, of course. I also found this interesting compilation of everything the characters have eaten on OITNB.
Max’s Beer-Batter Maple-Bacon Spring Break Cupcakes
In a last-ditch effort to impress the one-and-only cupcake connoisseur, Martha Stewart, Max and Caroline bathroom-bombard her with their spring break inspired recipe. Major props to all of the hard-core fans that came up with their very own recipes, like Clarisse from The Tummy Train who made a PART 1 and PART 2.
and last but not least . . . THE SAUCE (kind of)
Oh, Nick, sweet Nick, that is SO MUCH mayonnaise. Even so, the secret, special sauce was a hit with the New Girl gang. While I couldn’t find a fondue recipe that tastes like the “inside of a bear,” I think this Slow Cooker Corn and Jalapeno dip might churn up some of the same Nick Miller magic. Or you could give the ham-cornflake-gooyness a go.
